Dear Sisters and Brothers of Taiwan: Taiwan, dear and close to us, is facing a life-and-death crisis. Those of us who love Taiwan are encountering an impending danger. Within Taiwan there are pro-China petty politicians and people who ally themselves with China to undermine, by hook and by crook, the indigenous government. They are doing everything they can to seize back political power. Across the Taiwan Strait, China is plotting to take Taiwan, by force if necessary. The political struggle unfolding before our eyes will grow more and more serious as time goes on. We are therefore initiating a movement, calling people of Taiwan, inside and outside Taiwan, to become united and make concerted efforts to save Taiwan for ourselves and for our future generations. Our effort is to secure Taiwan as an independent nation. The Movement we are initiating is a grass-roots movement, a movement from the bottom up to the top. The strength each one of us has is very limited. But when your limited strength and mine are united with millions of the Taiwanese people who love Taiwan as their own country, it will grow into unstoppable power, enabling us to defend ourselves from the sinister schemes to destroy our freedom and democracy. This Movement seeks, through our many communities and organizations in Taiwan and abroad, to do things such as:
We can never give up Taiwan with its freedom and democracy to our opponents. We have to do our utmost to save Taiwan from them. This is the time we must let our actions speak for the love and hope we cherish for Taiwan. We call upon all those who hold Taiwan dear to their hearts to respond to this Movement through the communities and organizations to which they belong.
